Tamale, Ghana – Dr. Christopher Oduro Boakye, a proud alumnus of the University for Development Studies (UDS), returned to his alma mater on Friday, May 23, 2025, to make a significant contribution to the Department of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Chris, who graduated in 2024 with a second-class honours upper division in the six-year Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science Program, has become a beacon of inspiration for future students.

In recognition of the profound impact UDS has had on his personal and professional journey, Dr. Chris donated 2,800 exercise books, 2,800 Vista pens, and 500 whiteboard markers to support current students. Additionally, he contributed 10,000 cedis to help cover the fees of students facing financial hardships and at risk of dropping out.

During an interview, Dr. Chris expressed his desire to set a positive example for the younger generation. “I want to acknowledge the crucial role this institution has played in shaping our lives,” he stated. His gesture not only underscores his commitment to giving back but also highlights the importance of educational support among peers.

The donation was honored by Dr. Yussif Adams, Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Dr Abu, Immediate Past Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist (GAMLS) President, along with other faculty members and representatives from the UDS Medical Laboratory Science Student Association (UDS-MELSSA). Dr. Adams expressed his gratitude, stating, “Dr. Chris is truly exemplifying the spirit of philanthropy and commitment to community. His actions will undoubtedly inspire future generations of students.”

Dr. Chris’ contributions are expected to make a lasting impact, assisting students in their academic pursuits and fostering a sense of community within the university’s biomedical sciences department.
