The Third Trimester Field Program is an annual 5-7 week course at the University for Development Studies. In this program, first – and second-year students are deployed to various communities across the country to identify local issues and propose solutions.

Since its inception, the program has inspired numerous transformative policies and developmental projects in the communities where University for Development Studies students have led various initiatives.

Students have undertaken several developmental projects over the years, including constructing schools, providing tables and chairs for students, and supplying learning materials for basic school students in rural areas. Additionally, they have advocated for policies such as girl-child education and addressing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) within these communities.

The impact of this program on the lives of the communities where students have been deployed is undeniable. However, amidst challenges on campus—such as unstable electricity, a water crisis, inadequate infrastructure, poor intra-campus road networks, and ineffective student leadership—some students have raised concerns about why the Third Trimester Field Practical Program (TTFPP) has not been conducted on campus to find lasting solutions to the issues facing the institution.
